Rulemaking for Portland Cement - Explorers and Exploratory Borings
The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) is revising Minnesota Rules, chapter 4727 (Explorers and Exploratory Borings) to reflect changes in the cement industry towards greener products.
Minnesota Rules, chapter 4727 define Type I Portland cement by its conformity with ASTM Standard C150. The cement industry is replacing Type I Portland cement with a “low carbon” Type IL Portland-limestone cement. This new Type IL Portland-limestone cement conforms to ASTM Standard C595, not authorized under current rules governing Explorers and Exploratory Borings. This revision redefines the Portland cement definition to include Type I and Type IL.
