Droughts
A drought occurs when drier than normal conditions lead to a decrease in water supply. The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) is advising private well users to be even more conscious of water use and well maintenance during periods of drought.
Floods
The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) is advising well owners that private water wells contaminated with flood water can pose a health risk. MDH recommends that well owners take precautions before possible flooding, and take corrective actions should a well be flooded.
Water from a flooded well cannot be regarded as safe for drinking or food preparation until the well and plumbing system have been flushed and disinfected, and a water test shows that it is safe.
