Next Generation Public Health Pathways Grant
Building career pathways to governmental public health in Minnesota
The Minnesota Department of Health is allocating $276,457 to support creative initiatives that introduce and connect Minnesotans to public health careers, with a special emphasis on governmental public health opportunities. Grants will range from $20,000 to $75,000 per project to fund innovative approaches that create sustainable entry points into the field.

Program overview
The Next Generation Public Health Pathways Grant supports projects that connect diverse talent to governmental public health careers. Individual grants will range from $20,000 to $75,000 per project.
Target audiences
Programs may engage:
- Middle and/or high school students
- Post-secondary students
- Adults in the workforce
Program priorities
Priority will be given to programs that:
- Feature experiential learning opportunities
- Go beyond traditional internship models
- Engage participants from underrepresented backgrounds
- Build strategic public health skills
- Create sustainable partnerships
Apply for funding
Applications open March 21, 2025, and are due by May 12, 2025, at 4:30 p.m. central.
Eligible applicants include:
- Tribal nations
- Community-based organizations
- Non-profit organizations
- Schools and academic institutions
- Community health boards

- March 21, 2025: RFP published
- April 9, 2025: Informational webinar (1 p.m. central)
- April 22, 2025: Question submission deadline
- April 29, 2025: Answers published
- May 12, 2025: Applications due (4:30 p.m. central)
- Week of June 23, 2025: Applicants are notified of selected grantees by this date or earlier
- Aug. 2025: Agreements signed by all parties and proposed grant activities can begin*
- March 31, 2027: Grant period ends
*No work shall begin until all required signatures have been obtained on the grant agreement, and a grantee receives a signed copy of the grant agreement.
Informational sessions
An informational webinar will be held on April 9, 2025, at 1 p.m. central. The webinar link is included in this document on page 5: Next Gen Pathways Grant RFP (PDF). The webinar will be recorded and posted for those unable to attend live. Questions and answers from this meeting will be posted here on April 29.
