Continuing Education Overview
Assessment, Planning and Documentation
Continuing Education ensures ongoing staff development that broadens knowledge and competencies on various topics related to nutrition, breastfeeding, WIC and public health. On-going educational opportunities enhance staff skills in providing quality participant centered services to best meet the needs of WIC participants. See MOM Section 4.5, Staff Training for training requirements.
Training Needs Assessment
The purpose of a Training Needs Assessment is to determine areas in which training is needed or desired for staff to develop competencies, and to identify ways in which these needs can be met. Local Agencies may use one or more of the following forms to assess WIC staff continuing education needs, or develop their own form.
- Training Needs Assessment Group Activity (PDF) - as a staff, prioritize training needs.
- WIC Individual Development Plan (WORD) - the individual staff member determines his/her learning objectives and training activities.
- WIC Staff Survey of Training Needs (WORD) - completed individually or as a group. Review list of WIC competencies and determine priorities for training.
Training Plan and Log
After determining training needs, develop a written plan outlining potential training resources to meet identified needs and general timeline of when the training will be offered. Use the following form to document your training plan, or you may develop your own form. The form may also be used to document completed training.
- Training Plan and Log - record training priorities on the training plan and log completed trainings.
