Grief and Loss Support
Resources for families
- Star Legacy Foundation: Families who have experienced and infant death or stillbirth are connected to grief and loss support services.
- Parents of Stillborn Children Credit: Parents who experience the stillbirth of a child in Minnesota may be eligible for a refundable credit of $2,000.
- MDH Perinatal Mental Health Support: Resources are available to help birthing people, families, friends, and health professionals better understand, support, and treat prenatal or postpartum mental health disorders, including experiencing infant loss.
Request for proposals
Support grieving parents and caregivers experiencing the death of an infant or a stillbirth in Minnesota
MDH seeks to fund one organization with the capacity and expertise to directly provide bereavement support statewide to grieving parents or caregivers who have experienced an infant loss or stillbirth in Minnesota. Priority will be given to an organization with experience providing grief and loss support services. The organization awarded this grant must, upon completion of the contract, be ready to immediately serve families statewide by coordinating resources, services, and related activities as appropriate.
Eligible applicants
Eligible applicants must have three or more years of experience providing grief and loss support services to families and may include community health boards, Tribal governments, and non-profit organizations. Applicants must have state or federal recognition as a formal entity. Organizations or groups may apply as a fiscal agent. Applicants must be located in the state of Minnesota and conduct grant activities in the state, but fiscal agents may be located outside of Minnesota. Eligible applicants who wish to work together but have not formed a legal partnership must designate one organization to be the lead organization with which MDH will write the grant agreement.

Funding
Funding will be allocated through a competitive process. The selected organization may only incur eligible expenditures when the grant agreement is fully executed, and the grant has reached its effective date.
