How to report

• Electronic Laboratory Reporting (ELR)
  ELR reporting is preferred from any health system that has a previously established ELR feed with the Minnesota Department of Health, invasive E. coli should be reported via ELR.
• Another secure electronic data transmission method.
   
• Please contact 651-201-5414 or 1-877-676-5414 with reporting questions.

Isolate submission

• Clinical and reference laboratories are required to submit isolates to the MDH public health laboratory using the General Infectious Disease Laboratory Submission Form from the Forms for the Infectious Disease Laboratory.
  • Complete the submitter, patient, and specimens sections, and the source/site information in the reportable disease isolate section.
  • In the comment box write: “Specimen receiving staff order Escherichia coli (invasive) – Isolate (ECOLIID).”
  • If your laboratory has capacity, please include antimicrobial susceptibility (AST) report printout from your automated system (e.g. Vitek2, Microscan, Phoenix), with the isolate.

  The proposal explaining the rationale for this change. The Commissioner of Health has the authority to select infectious disease/syndromes and reporting sites for sentinel surveillance per Minn. Rules 4605.7046.
