In 2024, the Minnesota Legislature passed a new law (Minnesota Statutes, chapter 151.212) requiring all pharmacies to make accessible prescription drug labels—including large print or Braille labels—available at no additional cost by January 1, 2026. Until then, if a pharmacy does not yet have the capacity to provide an accessible label, the pharmacy is required to direct patients to a list of pharmacies, provided by MDH below, currently providing accessible prescription drug labels.
The Legislature also directed the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) to issue a report assessing the cost and options for providing audible prescription drug labels (Minnesota Laws of 2024, chapter 127, article 60, section 24).
Report
MDH sent its Assessment of Audible Prescription Drug Labels (PDF) to the Minnesota Legislature on 4/01/25. The assessment includes results from MDH's survey of outpatient pharmacies, cost estimates for accessible label adoption, and recommendations to the Legislature.
Pharmacies with Accessible Labels
MDH conducted a survey of all pharmacies to identify their current capacity to provide accessible prescription drug container labels. MDH compiled the following list of pharmacies based on the results of this survey. This list will be updated on a quarterly basis throughout 2025. The current list reflects pharmacies that—as of March 2025—have the capacity to provide accessible prescription drug container labels.
The list is available using the searchable table below.
