Minnesota Perinatal Quality Collaborative (MNPQC)
Minnesota Perinatal Quality Collaborative (MNPQC)
The Minnesota Perinatal Quality Collaborative (MNPQC) seeks to improve maternal and infant health outcomes with emphasis on racial and ethnic health inequities. The MNPQC is a network of organizations, medical providers, content experts and community voices led by the Minnesota Perinatal Organization (MPO) in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH). The MNPQC is a multidisciplinary approach that uses quality improvement (QI) principles through the participation of multi-partner organizations to improve maternal and infant health outcomes and reduce health disparities.
The MNPQC was established in January of 2018 by a grant from the CDC, with the core quality improvement project focused on the use of 17 alpha-hydroxyprogesterone caproate (17P) to reduce the incidence, severity, and disparity of preterm birth in Minnesota.
Purpose & Vision
Our MNPQC seeks to be a known resource within our state as well as a national leader in perinatal outcomes through collaborative impact. The MNPQC aims to provide the best, safest care for women and infants statewide with advanced, sustained, data-driven practices that result in improved quality care and reduced health disparities.
Current Quality Improvement Initiatives and Committees
- Preterm Birth Prevention Initiative aims to reduce premature birth and improve pregnancy outcomes for MN women and their families. The Collaborative is a statewide, voluntary network designed to influence actions at a systems level through the implementation of evidence-based interventions to reduce preterm birth.
- Hypertension in Pregnancy Initiative aims to improve the identification, treatment, and follow-up of hypertension in pregnancy and in the postpartum period.
- Maternal Opioid Use Disorder Initiative aims to decrease misuse of opioids, inform providers of alternatives to prescribing opioids, and increase identification and treatment of opioid misuse.
- Steering Committee consists of healthcare providers, professional leadership, and community stakeholders, with these primary functions: provides leadership on initiatives, and discussion of state-specific system and policy issues to guide quality improvement initiatives for mothers and infants across the state.
- Community Advisory Committee works to bring together patients, families, and community members through collaborative equity approaches that improve health outcomes for moms, families and babies in both the metro and rural Minnesota.
