Educational Resources

Trauma Education for Hospital Nurses

The Trauma Education for Hospital Nurses are a series of 12 modules. This is an optional tool for use by hospitals which meet the Trauma Education requirements for inpatient nurses. This series of e-learning can be taken at any time. 

To download the e-learning modules onto your hospital's learning management system, please submit a request for access form.

Objectives:

Trauma Education for Hospital Nurses Course Objectives (PDF)

Trauma Program 101

All trauma program leaders (trauma program managers/coordinators, medical directors/medical advisors, CEO/administrators) of Level 3 and Level 4 Trauma Hospitals are encouraged to attend. Nursing Continuing Education Units (CEU) will be offered.

Objectives:

  • Overview of the State Trauma System
  • Trauma System designation criteria
  • Trauma performance improvement (PI) concepts
  • Educational opportunities and networking for continuous growth of Trauma Programs

The Trauma Program 101 Course will be held on the following dates:

  • April 16, 2026, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
    Mayo Clinic Health System, 800 Medical Center Dr, Fairmont, MN 56031
    Register for the April 16 course.
  • October 15, 2026, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
    Buffalo Hospital, 303 Catlin St., Buffalo, MN 55313
    Registration is not yet open.

Performance Improvement Series

A Performance Improvement (PI) series will follow the Trauma Program 101 Course. This PI series is intended to be an interactive and in-depth learning of the topics introduced at the 101 course.

While the Trauma Program 101 Course and the PI series can be taken in sequential order, it's not necessary. Take these courses as you can. All of these offerings will be repeated on an ongoing basis.

The PI series will be offered virtually from 9:30-11:30 am on the following dates.

We will be reviewing the new Level 3 trauma hospital designation criteria using the criteria crosswalk tool. 

Recent changes and implementation timelines will be highlighted.

The Level 3 Criteria Review Sessions will be offered virtually from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. on the following dates:

  • January 13, 2026
  • January 27, 2026
  • February 10, 2026
  • February 24, 2026

Level 4 Criteria Review Sessions - NEW

We will be reviewing the new Level 4 trauma hospital designation criteria using the criteria crosswalk took.

  • January 6, 2026
  • January 20, 2026
  • February 3, 2026

Trauma Medical Director (TMD) Orientation

This virtual training is an optional orientation for the Trauma Medical Director/Co-TMD role. This will include a presentation with time for questions and answers. Registration is not required to attend.

  • Basics of the PI Review Process
  • Share Resources

Training orientations will be offered virtually from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. on the following dates:

  • March 12, 2026
  • June 10, 2026
  • September 8, 2026
  • December 10, 2026
