Frequently-Asked Questions about In-Facility Testing Two-Server System in Headmaster TMU

The two-server system reduces time spent by test sites on administrative duties as a part of the scheduling and payment process. Test sites will not be responsible for the payment or scheduling of a student’s test. Instead, the student or sponsor will pay for the student’s test in TMU. After payment is complete, the student will schedule their nurse aide test in TMU.

If the facility chooses to use a Headmaster RN Test Observer for their in-facility test events, Headmaster will:

  • Coordinate with the test site and test observer for test dates.
  • Create the test events in TestMaster Universe (TMU). Events can be open or closed.

If the facility chooses to use their own RN Test Observers for their in-facility test events, the test site will be responsible for all test date coordination, including creating and scheduling dates in TMU.

Regardless of whose RN Test Observer is being used,

  • Headmaster will monitor test events, and add more events as needed after coordinating with the test site.
  • Students will pay the test fee to Headmaster and schedule their test in TMU.

Facilities may also pay the Headmaster test fees for students who are part of a large cohort or closed event, or for students they are sponsoring.

Training program instructors enroll students in TMU via one of two server links found at D&S - Minnesota Nurse Aide.
  • Minnesota In-Facility TMU© Login: Server for regional or in-facility testing sites.
  • Minnesota TMU© MN State Login: Server for MN State test sites.
Students must be enrolled in a server within 48 hours of the student starting a training program; the student will remain in the chosen server throughout the testing process. For more information see: Enrolling a Nurse Aide Student in Two-Server System Policy (PDF)

Challenge candidates will contact Headmaster, who will enroll the candidate in the in-facility server on TMU. Once they are enrolled, candidates will pay the fee to Headmaster in TMU and schedule their own test. If a candidate prefers to challenge the nurse aide test at a MN State site, the candidate needs to contact the MN State test site of candidate’s choosing to be enrolled in the MN State server.

Yes, training program instructors may enroll students in both MN State and In-Facility servers.

Students should be enrolled in the server that is preferred by their employer or sponsor facility. If a student does not have an employer or sponsor, they should be enrolled in the server that best fits their preference for access to test sites and availability of testing.

Eligible students will schedule their test in TMU, themselves. Payment must be made to Headmaster in TMU before a student can schedule testing.

Yes, training program instructors can enroll students in both MN State and In-Facility servers. An instructor is given login access to one of the two servers at any given time. Instructors will contact Headmaster to request a change in login access when switching between servers while entering students.

Programs can have students testing in both servers, but students can’t switch back and forth.

Example: CentraCare has five different training programs. One training program wants to test at Alexandria College, another training programs wants to test at an in-facility test site. The training instructor will complete the students record either in the MN State server or the In-Facility server. Once enrolled, the student will remain in the chosen server throughout the testing process.

MDH doesn’t control cost and is not involved in any cost adjustments. The cost must be the same for all in-facility testing for TMU software to function in this capacity.

Once a student or sponsor facility pays Headmaster for a test in TMU, the payment button will change into a schedule button. The student will click the schedule button and will choose their nurse aide test date, time, and location within Minnesota. The student will not be able to schedule their test until payment for a test is made.

A facility may contact Headmaster and set up an account to pay for their students testing. Once payment is made, the student will see the closed test event in TMU and will schedule themselves into the event. The training program must be affiliated with the test site, which is part of the pre-planning.
