Adopting from Abroad

Adopting children from abroad can present special health care challenges, among them viral hepatitis infection. Screening newly arrived adoptees for hepatitis A (anti-HAV IgM), hepatitis B (HBsAg, anti-HBc IgM, anti-HBs) and hepatitis C (anti-HCV) will determine infectivity and need for hepatitis A and B immunizations for the child and family members.
