Betty Hubbard MCH Leadership Award

Elizabeth (Betty) Hubbard, a longtime advocate for the health needs of mothers and children and an original member of the Maternal and Child Health Advisory Task Force, died in 1989. In 1990, the MCH Advisory Task Force and the Minnesota Department of Health honored her work and her memory by establishing the Annual Betty Hubbard Leadership Award. This award of recognition is presented to individuals or organizations in Minnesota making significant contributions to maternal and child health.

Betty Hubbard Award Nomination Information

The MCHATF and the Commissioner of Health honor her work and her memory by presenting the award each year.

The award is bestowed to individuals or organizations making significant contributions to improve health outcomes for Minnesota women, children and families in the two categories listed below:

  • Statewide level: recognizing a nominee’s contributions to maternal and child health with outcomes at a statewide level.
  • Community level: recognizing contributions to maternal and child health with outcomes that impact an entire community or a targeted population within a community.

Betty Hubbard Award Honorees

2024 award honorees are (left to right): Sadie Swenson (Olmsted County), Winnie Godi (Cradle 2 Career), Sarah Stevens (Olmsted County), MDH Assistant Commissioner Maria Sarabia, Julie Ruzek (Cradle 2 Career), Deb Purfeerst, and Patricia Wilson.

The nomination process is easy and consists of three steps:

  1. Complete the Betty Hubbard Award Nomination Form.
  2. Obtain 1-3 letters of support for your nominee.
  3. Submit.
