School Nurse Day
Governor Tim Walz proclaimed Wednesday, May 12, 2021 as: School Nurse Day.
WHEREAS: The COVID-19 pandemic has emphasized the essential role school nurses play in student health and academic success; and
WHEREAS: Highlighted the heroic efforts school nurses have put forward over the course of this school year to meet the needs of students through innovation and improvements in the delivery of health care in and out of school buildings; and
WHEREAS: School nurses have also worked tirelessly as front-line providers to identify students with symptoms or positive test results and then contact trace within the school to prevent further spread of the virus; and
WHEREAS: School nurses tracked, reviewed, and implemented the latest COVID-19 research and guidance to become trusted sources of information to reduce the spread of the virus and advise and support their school communities including staff, students, and families; and
WHEREAS: School nurses have served a critical role in improving public health and in ensuring students' academic success for more than 100 years; and
WHEREAS: School nurses are professionals who continue, even during the pandemic, to advance the wellbeing, academic success, and lifelong achievements of all students; and
WHEREAS: School nurses are working tirelessly to eliminate the opportunity gap and improve education outcomes for all our children.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, TIM WALZ, Governor of Minnesota, do hereby proclaim Wednesday, May 12, 2021, as:
SCHOOL NURSE DAY
in the State of Minnesota.
