Develops, maintains, interprets, publishes and promotes the proper use of American National and UN/EDIFACT International Electronic Data Interchange Standards. Its main objective is to develop standards to facilitate electronic interchange relating to business transactions such as order placement and processing, shipping and receiving information, invoicing, and payment and cash application data.

Admit, Discharge and Transfer (ADT), also known as, Patient Administration, supports many of the core administrative functions in health care such as person and patient registration and encounter management.




ADT feed: Admissions, discharges and transfers, an ADT feed is a type of HL7 (see Health Level Seven definition) message typically sent from a healthcare registration system to ancillary systems, regarding the status of a patient. ADT messages contain demographic information about a patient in the patient identification (PID) segment of the message, as well as patient status information and insurance information in other segments of the message.

Admission, discharge, transfer (ADT) notifications are widely used to help improve patient care coordination through health information exchange. An ADT notification may be used for hospital visits (admit, discharge, or ER) The most commonly used ADT notifications can be sent when a patient is admitted to a hospital, “admitted” to an emergency department, transferred to another facility, or discharged from the hospital. Notifications are then sent to update physicians and care management teams on a patient’s status, thus improving post-discharge transitions, prompting follow-up, improving communication among providers, and supporting patients with multiple or chronic conditions.

  1. A set of standard software interrupts, calls, functions, and data formats that can be used by an application program to access network services, devices, applications, or operating systems.

A report that indicates who has accessed a patient's electronic health record that may include some or all of the following data elements: date of access; time of access; name of person, if available, otherwise name of entity accessing the electronic designated record set; description of what information was accessed, if available, and description of action by the user, if available, e.g. "create," "modify," "access," or "delete."

A formal mechanism to evaluate, record and report findings in order to assess compliance with requirements.

Chronological record of system activity which enables the reconstruction of information regarding the creation, distribution, modification, and deletion of data.

Verification of the identity of a person or process.
