Parenting Supports in Correctional Facilities

An estimated 1 out of 6 youth in Minnesota have an incarcerated or previously incarcerated parent, making parental incarceration one of the most frequently reported adverse childhood experience for this population (MN Student Survey, 2022). A contact list of parenting supports in correctional facilities was created with the goal of improving the quantity and quality of parent-child contacts while the parent is in custody and after release. To support children of incarcerated parents in Minnesota, the Minnesota model jail practices learning community designed a program to promote and expand services in correctional facilities aimed at improving parent-child relationships. Below is the current list of correctional facilities that children and family members of an incarcerated person(s) can contact to get more information.
