Minnesota Violent Death Reporting System (MNVDRS) Dashboard

This dashboard is an interactive data tool using data from the Minnesota Violent Death Reporting System (MNVDRS) to examine violent deaths in residents of Minnesota. It should be used by public health officials, violence prevention groups, policymakers, journalists, and the general public to guide violence prevention in Minnesota.

MNVDRS gathers this information to learn more about those who die from violence, including:

  • Suicide
  • Homicide
  • Unintentional firearm
  • Law enforcement intervention
  • Undetermined deaths that may have been violent in nature

MNVDRS combines data from multiple sources, including death certificates, medical examiner and coroner reports, and law enforcement reports to gather detailed information on the circumstances related to these deaths in Minnesota. As such, data displayed on this dashboard may not match other sources of similar information.

For more information on MNVDRS, please visit MDH About Minnesota Violent Death Reporting System. The data are also shared with the National Violent Death Reporting System run by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

This dashboard was designed in partnership with Understory Consulting.
