Fluoridation Rule

The changes (below) replace the three previously prescribed concentrations with three new concentrations, which reflect the current state of community fluoridation science. The new target fluoride concentrations better balance the benefits of tooth decay prevention and control with risks of receiving too much fluoride.

Fluoride content.
The fluoride content of the water shall be controlled to maintain an average concentration of 1.2 0.7 milligrams per liter; the concentration shall be neither less than 0.9 0.5 milligrams per liter nor more than 1.5 0.9 milligrams per liter.
